Jaya Kelly biography

Jaya Kelly was born in the year 2000. She is the daughter of famed American musician R. Kelly.  She is the second child of R. Kelly and his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, from their 13-year year marriage. Kelly has two siblings, a boy and a girl.

Kelly got the attention of the public in 2014 when she came out as transgender and revealed that she would no longer be referred to as Jaya. She identified herself as a male and announced “Jaah” as her (his) new name. Several news platforms and tabloids picked up the story and this led to her being the most popular of R. Kelly’s kids. However, in a subsequent radio interview, she asked fans not to call her transgender. She also demanded not to be called R. Kelly’s ‘son’, saying she wanted nothing to do with him.

Since she was a little child, Kelly has had a special interest in music. She attended high school in her neighbourhood, where she received her diploma. She is an African-American by ethnicity.

Career 

Kelly has pursued a career in music as a singer, rapper, sound engineer and music producer. She was always interested in singing since she was a child. Coming from a family of entertainers, it is only natural that the apple did not fall far from the tree.

Kelly participated in various shows while in school. She has yet to release an official music album; however, she has released a couple of songs to streaming platforms and looks to stamp her feet firmly on the entertainment sphere.

Despite not releasing an album yet, Kelly has released a few singles, most notably Focus and Reservoir. She has already appeared in several live city shows and events. Back in 2019, she released a diss track directed at her father, which coincided with the release of the expository documentary, “Surviving R. Kelly”, in which her mother also took part, detailing her experience in what she deemed as an abusive marriage.

In regards to the song, Kelly shared a clip on her Instagram page, which was accompanied by the following caption:

I’ve personally decided that I’m going to drop it on the 22nd not only because @bu.k.u will have an emergency verse on it, but also because It was very hard to record the song, let alone write it and produce the beat and I’ve just been thinking about everything I’ve had to deal with being R.kelly’s child. It was hard to even post the parts that I did.. The past couple days have been a little rough but we gone be Gucci dawg. I appreciate and love all of the support ya’ll been giving not only me but my whole family.

Her sister, Joann Kelly, is also a singer who has gone on to release several songs to streaming platforms, including an EP. She goes by the name Buku Abi.
